Although Charter schools date back to the 1970s, they have now become one of the fastest growing innovations in education policy. Their effectiveness has been validated by numerous studies. Over 1 million students attend charter schools in 40 states. Each charter school is different and should be evaluated on its individual merits. At Lehigh Valley Academy, we believe that your school choice should include detailed information about how your school of choice will meet your child's needs. We support school choice and support parents/guardians with information they need to make their choice. Below is an excerpt from the Pennsylvania Charter School Act 22 of 1997 which details the legislative intent of the establishment of public charter schools.
IT IS THE INTENT OF THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY, IN ENACTING THIS ARTICLE, TO PROVIDE PUPILS AND COMMUNITY MEMBERS TO ESTABLISH AND MAINTAIN SCHOOLS THAT OPERATE INDEPENDENTLY FROM THE EXISTING SCHOOL DISTRICT STRUCTURE, AS A METHOD TO ACCOMPLISH ALL OF THE FOLLOWING:
