Regulations

Class Selection

Each student is required to select three standard level (SL) classes and three higher level (HL) classes in order to sit for the full IB Diploma.  Should a student wish, he or she may select more that three SL classes; however, this will disqualify him or her from the full IB Diploma.  A student may also elect to choose four HL classes and two SL classes; however, this requires prior approval from the DP Academic Counselor and the DP Coordinator.
Extended Essay and Theory of Knowledge
Students must complete an extended essay for the full IB Diploma and for graduation from LVA.  All students are required to take theory of knowledge, regardless of whether or not they will sit for the full IB Diploma.  Should a student sit for the full IB Diploma, he or she must obtain a minimum score of a "D" in theory of knowledge AND the extended essay.  Failing either of these components, is an automatic failing condition for the full IB Diploma.  Please see the points matrix for further clarification.   Diploma Points Matrix

Creativity, Activity, and Service

All students must complete CAS, regardless of their examination status.  Please see the CAS Handbook for more information.  Students sitting for the full IB Diploma must successfully complete their CAS program.
