New K-12 Campus

Here you will find information about our building project for LVA's new campus!

2021 Update from the CEO

Dear LVA Community,

As you know, Lehigh Valley Academy (LVA) recognized that owning our own facility rather than continuing to rent space was the way to fix our facility costs and be fiscally responsible long-term.

LVA entered into a sales agreement for a piece of land in Bethlehem Township in 2019. Since then, LVA has been pursuing, and continues to pursue, the township and other necessary approvals for the property while designing the building.

The process has taken significantly longer than we originally anticipated. Our original timeline of completing construction by the summer of 2023 will not be met.

LVA’s lease at our current location ends in September 2023. Therefore, LVA had to find another option, a building that LVA could move into at the end of our lease in the summer of 2023. The FLSmidth building seems to be the solution. The building is located on the corner of Avenue C and Schoenersville Rd (across the street from Wawa).

I am very pleased to share that the Bethlehem Zoning Hearing Board granted our request for a variance at the FLSmidth building. This was a very important first step in our process of purchasing the building. We did not have anyone at the meeting who came out in opposition of our request.  Please note that in order for this to be official, we will have to wait to receive the decision in writing which can take up to 30 days. There is also an appeals period.
The next step will be the charter application for Bethlehem and Saucon Valley School Districts in order to get permission to move the school at the start of the 2023-2024 school year.

Kind regards,

Susan Mauser

Our Future Goals
Lehigh Valley Academy Regional Charter School, located in Bethlehem, PA is an accredited, non-profit, independent, public charter school serving over 1,800 students from 16 different school districts in the Lehigh Valley. LVARCS is one of only three fully authorized International Baccalaureate (IB) World Schools in the United States, that offer the full IB continuum of all four programmes to all students in grades K-12. Beginning with full-day Kindergarten and continuing through high school, LVARCS emphasizes inquiry-based learning and critical thinking to prepare students for higher education and the 21st century globalized environment.

Lehigh Valley Academy Regional Charter School’s lease for our current buildings will expire in August of 2023. The LVA Board of Trustees recognize that owning our own facility is significantly more cost effective, fiscally responsible, and sustainable in the long term. Charter Schools are funded through subsidies that follow the student. The operating budget remains the same whether LVARCS rents or owns its own facility.

The future plan is to build a 200,000 sq ft building for approximately 1,950 students for the purpose of creating a comprehensive elementary and secondary school. Our new forever home will provide a cost-effective, collaborative, safe space for our students to grow and be active members in our communities.
