LVA implemented the Primary Years Programme (PYP) for students in kindergarten through grade 5. Students and parents/guardians are introduced to the LVA's IB learning culture in kindergarten and quickly develop an understanding of the learner profile traits, IB attitudes, and the units of inquiry. Learning at LVA involves not only the acquisition of knowlege but the practice and development of skills such as listening, decision-making, working cooperatively, collecting and analyzing data, and reflecting. LVA students are active and involved learners who are coached to take responsibility for their learning.

Program Features:
- Development of the whole child in the classroom and in the world outside through a transdisciplinary framework that connects language, math, science, social studies, arts, and personal, social and physical education.
- The PYP is delivered by trained faculty who design thematic, grade appropriate units organized around the following concepts:
- Who we are
- Where we are in place and time
- How we express ourselves
- How the world works
- How we organize ourselves
- Sharing the planet
- Units include local and global subject matter and incorporate state standards.
- Reading, Writing and Math instruction is supported through literacy circles and small group instruction.
- Multiple assessments and differentiated instruction are embedded into the delivery of instruction.
- Parent-Teacher-Student Conferences take place twice a year.
